Theatre group staging modern take on 17th century horror story
The Bury Theatre Workshop will be kicking off 2016 in style later this month with a run of performances at the Theatre Royal.
The amateur group will be performing The Duchess of Malfi from January 26 to 30.
Written by John Webster, the story has been adapted for the 21st century by director Tim Lodge and promises to breathe new life into the 400-year-old horror story.
It follows the beautiful young Duchess, who is widowed but stopped from remarrying by her brothers.
However, she has already fallen for her housekeeper, Antonio. The pair elope and have three children, all unbeknownst to her brothers.
However, in order to reclaim their inheritance the enraged siblings plot their sister and her new husband’s downfall.
