Review: John Robins, you've been added to my 'must see again' list
Few comics make me laugh. You know it; the sort of laughter which rocks you physically because it mimics your life.
John Robins managed that last night at The Apex and has been added to a list of 'must-see again' names.
Lucy Porter, Jimmy Carr, Bob Mortimer and now John Robins. You are in exalted company.
A fairly lively audience in Bury St Edmunds (well, far more lively than the crowd at Southampton by all accounts 'who had just come along to stare all night') were taken on a rollercoaster trip through New York, dating (or rather, not), Hugh Grant and Amazon.
You remember the Perrier Award at Edinburgh, right? Well he won that in 2017 (albeit it's been given a trendy new name now - there's some material there for you John, on me). He also has a regular slot on radio X which I'll be tuning into now - plus a popular podcast. Another download for me.
But it was the de-humidifier episode which had me reaching for the chair arms to steady myself and gain back some composure. We all need a DIY expert to call on - Robins by his own admission is not that person but he'd be a damn good man to have around to keep the laughter coming.
Robins plays Cambridge West Road on November 13 - you'd be a fool to miss out.
