FOLK COLLECTED: Weekly round-up - January 16-23
Round-up of all things folk, from Bury Folk Collective – January 16-23.
Coming soon to the collective is an evening of folk music from the artists who performed folk songs in folk clubs in the 1970s – some from in and around Bury and some from much further afield. Folk music that has stood the test of time and will probably persist forever. We will have three bands and two soloists – a total of 14 musicians. Where else could a venue be found presenting such an evening of entertainment. Sunday, January 25 is the date for your diary. And to keep you on tenterhooks, I shall keep the names to myself untill next week.
Only two singarounds on the calender this week – Rob Algars open mic at the Ellesmere Centre, Stetchworth, and the Dove session at the Dove pub, Hospital Road, Bury.
I have just learned that Roger the landlord is not very well, so I would like to take this opportunity to wish him a very quick recovery from all of us olk clubbers and singaroundists and say that the pub is open and the session will go ahead.
For an evening of superb, mainly traditional folk music, have a look at the programme being presented by the Milkmaid Folk Club on January 16. Multi-instrumentalists Mary Humpfreys and Anahata, supported by our own Paddy Butcher, will offer a musical delight.
An update for the Bury Folk Collective Traditional Unaccompanied Song Singing Competition is that there are just a few places left. If you fancy singing competitively, contact Dave email@example.com
After much deliberation and research, we can now announce that the first Bury St Edmunds Folk Festival will take place at Nowton Park on July 4, 2015. All details can be accessed at www.buryfolkfestival.co.uk Tickets will be limited .
