If Nick Thomson’s business is going to sponsor a class at the Lavenham Rare Breeds Motor Show, there is only one he could go for.
His business, Lavenham Brook Wines & Produce, is sponsoring the pre-1939 class and among the cars on show will be Nick’s own 1935 Lancia Astura, pictured, which he has just finished restoring.
He bought it 11 years ago as a chassis on wheels, plus two front wings and all the mechanicals in 16 boxes.
This year will be its first appearance at the annual show on Bank Holiday Monday August 25 on the cricket field in Bridge Street Road. However, Nick, who started the show in 1996 and ran it in its formative years, has on occasion brought one of his other Lancias.
The show usually attracts vehicles dating back to 1900 and Nick said: “The how has always attracted many fine exhibits partly because of its beautiful setting, almost in the shade of Lavenham’s magnificent parish church.”
