An acclaimed East Anglian folk band will play their debut ceilidh in Stowmarket’s John Peel Centre on June 5.

The Valiant Dance Band is continuing a tradition of distinctive ceilidh dance bands from the region, with many collective years of experience.

The line-up of Katie Howson (melodeon), Liz Giddings (fiddle), Roger Digby (anglo concertina), Rob Neal (cello) and John Howson (banjo) has created a band which plays unusual but rhythmic tunes.

Over the years members have played in influential ceilidh bands including The Old Hat Dance Band, Flowers and Frolics, The English String Band, PolkaWorks, Tickler’s Jam and Katie’s Quartet.

They have appeared at major folk festivals such as Cambridge, Whitby and Shrewsbury.

The ceilidh will feature guest Liam Robinson, whose exuberant calling is making waves on the national folk festival scene.
