Yeomans finds scoring touch as Mildenhall end three-game winless run

Walsham-le-Willows 1 Mildenhall Town 2

Ben Yeomans netted his first two goals in Mildenhall Town colours to secure all three points away at Walsham-le-Willows on Saturday.

The centre-forward went into the clash having not found the net since his arrival from Godmanchester Rovers last month.

However, having ended his drought at Summer Road, the 24-year-old is hopeful that goals will now be easier to come by.

“As a striker, when you don’t score, it’s something that always plays on your mind,” said the 24-year-old.

“The goals were needed and hopefully they’ll come thick and fast now. I can’t predict the future, but once you’ve got one the momentum builds and the confidence starts rising. Hopefully there will be lots more to follow.”

His first of the encounter came in the eighth minute after the Walsham defence failed to deal with Michael Harvey’s corner. The ball rebounded off the post and Yeomans was on hand to bundle it over the line.

The hosts responded positively to the setback and they were level in the 21st minute when Nathan Clarke outjumped Mildenhall goalkeeper Josh Pope to head in.

Yet, within six minutes, match-winner Yeomans pounced again. Having been released by Jamie Hilton’s slide-rule pass. the number 10 slotted his shot through Walsham keeper Liam Bryant’s legs.

Andrew Wood and Thomas Driscoll were then denied by Pope before the break, while after the restart Mildenhall’s Joe Asensi and Dan Brown both went close to doubling their side’s advantage.

In the closing stages the home players and supporters called for Pope to be dismissed after a challenge on Wood just outside the area, but the referee spared the Mildenhall stopper by brandishing only a yellow card as the visitors held out to end a three-game winless run.

n Dean Greygoose’s Mildenhall, who have moved up to seventh position, play host to leaders Norwich United on Saturday (3pm).
