Willows are crowned County Cup champions

Walsham-le-Willows Under-13s have been crowned Suffolk County Cup champions after they overcame Blundeston Magpies in an emphatic 6-0 win.

Will Egglestone and Charlie Iglesias both scored braces while further goals came from Ethan Mayhew and Lewis O’Malley to seal the title.

Willows could clinch the double when they face a potential league championship decider against Maldon and Tiptree on Sunday.

n Brandon Lasses Under-15s successfully defended their Suffolk Girls and Womens League Cup title with a thrilling 4-3 penalty shoot-out success over AFC Kesgrave.

Having suffered defeat to the same opponents in last week’s County FA Cup final, the Lasses found themselves behind 10 minutes into the second half despite the best efforts of Kuri Benitez, Freya Hayward, Lynn Fuller and Emily Grant.

However, with six minutes remaining the Lasses got themselves level as Georgia Reardon was on hand to fire home a rebound from Ruby Robertson’s initial shot which hit the post.

In the penalty shootout, custodian Grant saved three of Kesgrave’s first five attempts, while Chloe Webb and Billie Nolan scored to send the match into sudden death.

There Grant proved the hero, saving Kesgrave’s sixth attempt before scoring from the spot herself to a second successive League Cup title.

n Elsewhere Bury Town Youth Colts Under-12s came out on the wrong side of a penalty shoot-out as they suffered a 4-3 defeat to miss out on County Cup joy at the hands of Woodbridge.

After a goalless match in normal time, Colts found themsleves ahead in extra time as Amin Muhammed fired home from the penalty spot after Kai Ivory was fouled.

However, Bury were to be denied the title as Woodbridge levelled late into extra time before going on to win the shoot-out.

n Brandon Youth Under-7s have had a busy couple of weekends with games against Thetford Bulldogs and Queen Hill Panthers in which they gave promising performances, particularly Archie Granger.
