Wilkinson walks off with British Indoor Championship silver medal

Callum Wilkinson rounded off his brief indoor season on a high note by clinching a silver medal at the Sainsbury’s British Indoor Championships in the senior 3km walk, in a season’s best time, in Sheffield.

The King Edward VI School pupil clocked a time of 12 minutes 24.34 seconds to finish narrowly behind Tonbridge’s Tom Bosworth, who sealed victory in a stadium record-breaking time of 11 minutes 30.35 seconds.

During the race, Wilkinson was the only athlete to try to match Bosworth’s pace, but had to let him go after the first kilometre.

Canadian Creighton Connolly caught and passed Wilkinson with 600m to go, but could not respond to the Suffolk walker’s final surge over the last lap.
