Callum Wilkinson’s fine season continued after he retained his English Under-20 10km racewalking title on Sunday.

The King Edward VI Upper School Sixth Form pupil finished the circuit at the Bedford International Stadium in 42 minutes and 59 seconds, and with it secured automatic selection for next month’s European Junior Track and Field Championships in Sweden.

Wilkinson was kept company by Cameron Corbishley and Guy Thomas until the half way point of the race, before the teenager covered the second 5km in a time of 21.26 to finish over half a minute ahead of his rivals.

n Javelin thrower Harry Hughes, also a King Edward Sixth Form student, is also celebrating a call-up to the European Junior Track and Field Championships.

The Stowmarket-based athlete, a member of West Suffolk Atheltics Club, will join Wilkinson in heading to the competition which starts in Eskilstuna on July 16.
