Wheelers battle breezy conditions

A large contingent of West Suffolk Wheelers and Triathlon Club athletes took part in the club’s time trial event in Great Welnetham.

A breezy outward leg made for a deceptively challenging ride for the 36 riders on the 8.5 mile course with Dale Sturman first home in 21 minutes and 33 seconds, followed by Paul Vickers (21.35) and Paul Rooke (22.00).

Other finishers included: Darren Davis (22.16), Richard Farrow (22.55); Pip Moore (23.07); Boyd Nicholas (23.10); Peter Stephenson-Wall (24.32); Paul Watson (24.44); Henry Wood (24.53); Stu grand (24.56); Fraser Elsworth (25.01); David Howes (25.03); David Young (25.29); Jamie Mott (25.35); Malcolm MacFarlane (25.46); Phil Clarke (25.56); Darren Baker (26.06); Mark Eastwood (26.12); Martin Gale (26.17); Jim Greenwood (26.26); Michael Lawson (26.27); Zoila Gilham-Fermandez (26.59); Chris Brownhill (27.36); Dick Lines (28.26); Ker MacRosson (28.31); Paul Sawyer (28.59); Robin Lines (29.08); Harry Shingleton (29.18); Simon Kitching (29.22); Rob Norman (30.29); Celia Newman (31.11) and Jack Scruton (32.27).

Elsewhere, the veterans time trial association 10-mile time trial took place on the Rougham to Woolpit course with Darren Davis recording a very strong 22.59 and Boyd Nicholas 24.09.

Mandy Bunn (45-49 age category), Stephen Linden (60-64) and Lesley Linden (55-59) raced in the 2016 Sprint Distance European Duathlon Championship qualifier recently at Grafham Water.

All will be very pleased with their results, respectively posting 1hr 30mins 15secs, 1.30.24 and 1.45.17.
