Andrew Gilding suffered a disappointing first round exit in the PDC German Darts Masters in Munich at the weekend.

The second event on the Professional Darts Corporation’s European Tour this season saw Gilding, along with 47 other players, compete at the Dolce Hotel’s Ballhausforum for the £25,000 top prize.

Goldfinger’s bid for a first title in the PDC was ended in the last 48 on Saturday afternoon, as the Walsham-le-Willows Sports Club thrower averaged just 79.92 in a 6-1 defeat to James Richardson.

Gilding’s conqueror was eventually beaten 6-2 in the quarter-finals by fellow Suffolk thrower Peter Wright, who let a 4-2 lead slip to lose 6-4 to Michael van Gerwen in the final.
