The Bury St Edmunds-based Team VeloVelocity continued their strong start to the season with a clean sweep at the District ten-mile Cycling Championships.

The event was held on the B1037, near King’s Lynn, and was organised by Team VeloVelocity on behalf of the East District.

A total of 66 riders took part. Daniel Bloy, of Team VeloVelocity, reclaimed the title in a time of 21 minutes and two seconds.

Paul Jay, also of team Team VeloVelocity, was second on the way to the team crown for the fourth successive year.

Francesca Rust, in her first year for the team, won the ladies’ championship title in a time of 25.06.

A number of Team VeloVelocity riders competed in the hilly 50-mile course, promoted by Colchester, on the Sunday.

The event was won by Matthew Smith of Team VeloVelocity by more than six minutes despite having a technical issue part way through his race. His time of 1.48.50 put him well on course for a result on the National 50-mile Championships in June.

Other riders in the team were: Andrew Leggett 1.56.29, Ben Keely 2.02.17 and Dave Clarke 2.05.22.

Rounding off the weekend for the team were Paul Jay and Gavin Moore, who competed in the Stowmarket-organised event on the B10/38 just outside Bury St Edmunds.

Dave McGaw, from Cambridge, completed the ten-mile course in 20.32, a full minute ahead of Moore in 21.32 and third-placed Jay in 21.40.
