The boys and girls involved in playing for the Rams and Colts sides high-fived the home players at the Cambs Glass Stadium as they came on to the pitch and also got a taste of playing at a Football League ground in front of a crowd at half-time.

Their special matchday experience package — which costs £10 per player — also included a guided tour of the ground and a chance to meet the U’s colourful mascot, Marvin the Moose, as well as some of the players following the game.

Colts manager Jason Day, who organised the day out with Under-8s head coach and Rams manager Tim Gleave, said: “They had a fantastic day and that is what it is all about, making lasting memories that will also foster a bit of team spirit.”

Cambridge dropped to 12th in the league following a 1-0 defeat on the day, with The Pilgrims’ Antoni Sarcevic scoring on his full debut four minutes before the interval.
