Under-12s just miss out on title triumph

Bury St Edmunds Under-12s A narrowly missed out on clinching the Suffolk Youth League title to Ipswich-East Suffolk (IES), despite a maximum haul of victories on the final day of the season.

They saw off Ipswich 7-1 in the opening game with goals from Charlie Page-Blair (four), Nat Wilkes, Ned Stanton and George Bedford before defeating title rivals IES 3-1 with goals from Hugo Van Vredenburch (two) and Page-Blair.

Both players were on target in their 3-1 triumph over Felixstowe, but it was not enough to clinch the title.

n All three teams from Bury St Edmunds Under-10s finished on top of their divisions in the second round of Suffolk Youth League fixtures on Sunday.

Natasha Hurley, Lucas Nicolai, Jago Cooper and Guy Salisbury helped the A team to three victories in the Premier Division.

Emma Boyle, Ruby Decent, Maddie Green, Katie Rogers and Adam Thompson guided the B team to the summit of Division One with a hat-trick of triumphs, while the C team won two and drew one in Division Two.

n Sophie Wheeler was named the player of the match as Thetford Ladies saw off Carrow 3-2 in Empresa Norfolk Women’s League Premier Division with goals from Dawn Heavey (two) and Charlie Harwood.
