Tostock and Gym United set up first Bury League final

Horringer had no answer to Premier Logos Bury & District League Division One rivals Tostock Pirates in the semi-final of the Suffolk Sunday Cup at Bury Town on Sunday.

A Theo Barnard brace and goals from Ben Virtue, Charlie Leighton and Tommy Goddard saw Tostock comfortably into the Needham Market final on April 28 by a 5-0 scoreline.

They will be looking to a second Suffolk Sunday Cup to their trophy list after triumphing in 2016. But they will have to overcome league rivals Gym United after they set up a first ever all-Bury & District League final in the competition with a 6-1 Martlesham at Stowmarket Town.

Jack Brame claimed a hat-trick and there was one apiece for Robbie Priddle, Aaron Joseph and Liam Bolton. They will try to emulate the great Bardwell Wasps side by winning the title for a third time next month.

Back in the league, Brandon Town moved up to fourth in Division One with a 3-1 win over Mellis (Teddy Webber, Jospeh Allen and Spike Murkin), while Moreton Hall Ferals are up to third after a 3-1 win over Bury Bowl (Callum Dove, Ben Newdick and an own goal) who themselves are one more defeat from relegation.

In Division Two, Danepak got their season back on track with a fine 7-1 win over Pakenham increasing their lead to six points. Aaron Piggott got a hat-trick while Thomas Wood claimed a brace there was one each for Elliott Gibson and James Dean.

Wetherden moved up to joint second with Moreton Hall Youth after a 5-0 win over Coldham Hall (Kieran Waller 2, Luke Britton 2, Jordan Ashton) while Occold moved up to sixth with a 1-1 draw over Ixworth.

In Division Three there were wins for the top two as Harwick won 5-0 at Thetford Rovers (Brandon Salisbury 3, Connor Suckley, OG) and Eastbury Eagles (2nd) triumphed 2-1 away to Kings Arms (Jake Paddy, Harry Brown).

Division Four league winner Breda lost for only the second time this season to second-placed Abbotts 3-1 (Christopher Thompson, Justin Farrow, Mark Clifford) while Bury Wanderers staged a remarkable comeback from 3-1 down to win 4-3 against Bardwell Sports (Callum Benham 3, Ben Kaye). Finally, Rattlesden were awarded the points as Rougham failed to raise a side.

* In the dor-jam St Edmundsbury Football League, a hat-trick from Matty Anderson and a goal from Nathan Ireland earned high-flying Walsham ‘B’ a 4-1 victory at Bury Town Rams. Joe Easdown netted a second half goal for the Rams.

Elsewhere, Vipers won 2-0 at RF Saints (Jon Smith, Steve Smith) while Walsham le Willows ‘A’ came back from Ipswich-based Stage FC with a point after a 2-2 draw (Bradley Budd, John Asker for A’s).

* Touchline SIL Division One rivals Bildeston Rangers (2nd) and Sporting 87 (3rd) will meet in the semi-finals of this season’s Suffolk Junior Cup at Bury Town FC on April 13 (2.30pm).

The other tie will see Bacton United 89, the 2017 winners of the competition and currently fifth in SIL Division One, play Division Two leaders Halesworth Town. The tie will take place at Woodbridge Town.
