Time is running out to nominate your local sporting stars for both the St Edmundsbury and Forest Heath Sports Awards.

Nominations for both of the districts will close at midnight on Sunday (August 14) and organisers Abbeycroft Leisure are making one final appeal for you to nominate local sportsmen and women for the awards, now in its 10th year.

Haverhill Netball Club are one of the teams nominated for this year’s Club of the Year in the St Edmunsbury category, citing the popular introduction of the junior team as a reason for the recognition they have received.

The St Edmundsbury awards will be held at The Apex in Bury St Edmunds on Tuesday, October 11, where the outstanding sporting achievements made by sports men, women and juniors in the borough are recognised.

Meanwhile, a young disabled athlete, a netball club and a local cyclist have been included on the Forest Heath nomination sheet.

The winners will be announced at an event at Newmarket Leisure Centre on Friday, September 30.

Kevin Hancock, who runs the Newmarket Hilly, is one of the nominations for the Unsung Hero category.

He has been nominated as a result of his support of the Newmarket Festival and work to raise money for the charity Breast Cancer Now.

Breckland Netball Club have been nominated for Club of the Year thanks to their introduction of a junior team this year and hard work to increase the participation of their sport within Mildenhall and the surrounding area.
