Record-breaker Josh Mayhew commits future to Stowmarket Town




The Thurlow Nunn League's record goalscorer, Josh Mayhew, is set to remain at Stowmarket Town after agreeing to a new two-year contract extension.

The 26-year-old dropped down a level from Bury Town in the Bostik League last summer and made a huge impact at Greens Meadow, as newly-promoted Stow went on to record a third-placed finish in the Premier Division.

Mayhew scored an incredible 56 goals for the Old Gold & Blacks in 2017/18 as he eclipsed ex-Bury player Matthew Metcalf’s then record 50-goal haul, set while playing for Wroxham in 1992/93.

In an interview with the Bury Free Press after breaking the record, he said his first season at Stowmarket Town has been his most enjoyable in football for a long time

The news of the two-year contract agreement came as the players and staff holidayed together in Portugal over the weekend and was met by a good response on Twitter, with a selection included below:
