Thetford Townn boss describes festive clash as “massive”
Thetford Town boss Danny White has described Monday’s festive clash with second-from-bottom Fakenham at The Recreation Ground as “massive”.
The Brecklanders find themselves one place above their visitors by virtue of goal difference and White knows that three points will go a long way to boosting his side’s survival hopes.
White said: “It’s a massive match for both clubs.
“It’s a game we want to win, but Fakenham will be thinking exactly the same as well.
“I think it will be down to who wants it more on the day and who wins the battles.
“I know Robbie Harris well from my playing days at King’s Lynn and I’m really looking forward to the game.
“Fakenham like to score quite a few goals and I think they will come here to try to take the game to us.”
White had few complaints about Saturday’s 3-1 home defeat at the hands of Haverhill in a game which saw The Brecklanders without seven first-team regulars.
“Considering we were without seven players, the side I put out did really well,” admitted White.
“Apart from the games against Stanway and Mildenhall, we’ve competed well against most of the side’s in the league.
“All we’ve got to try to do is cut out the silly mistakes at the back which are costing us goals.”
White added: “When I took over, three of my first four games were against teams at the top end of the table.
“We were absolutely superb against Swaffham and I’ve always maintained that if we want to stay up then we’ve go to try to beat the teams in and around us in the table.”
Mildenhall suffered a 2-1 reverse on their travels at Hadleigh while Walsham le Willows were soundly beaten 4-1 at home by Kirkley and Pakefield.
In Division One, Team Bury lost 5-0 at Haverhill Borough, Stowmarked shipped six goals in a 6-1 loss at leaders Wivenhoe and Needham Market Reserves conceded seven goals against a young King’s Lynn Town Reserves outfit in a 7-1 thrashing at The Walks.
On Monday, Mildenhall travel to league leaders Norwich United in the Premier Division.
In Division One, the bottom two in the table meet when Needham Market Reserves host Team Bury and Stowmarket entertain Debenham LC.
