Mark Scott has spoke of his devastation after being relieved of his managerial duties by Thetford Town.

Scott had been at the Thurlow Nunn Premier club for six years but was not surprised by the decision.

“I’m not surprised about the decision but I am absolutely devastated,” he said. “The chairman asked me after after two games of the season if I would step down after the Brantham game and I had said no.”

He believes the club could have gone about it in a better way, with the important FA Cup tie against Bury Town this weekend.

“I was disappointed that after six years and after giving so much to the club I was dismissed in such manner.

“I was given no time to turn things around but most disappointing, I still haven’t been given a proper, concise explanation from the club.”

Thetford have had a difficult start to the league season, losing their opening three matches but had shown signs of improvement in the FA Cup, beating Swaffham Town.

Scott refused to make excuses but said at times things were going against them.

“When you go to Godmanchester and lose one of your key players after 59 seconds and concede three penalties, that’s not something I can change.”

Scott won promotion to the Premier Division and also reached the final of the Norfolk Senior Cup twice.

“I’ve got no worries, doubts or regrets and I am proud of what I achieved at Thetford, I am just disappointed and angry at how things have ended.”

n Meanwhile, this weekend will also see league rivals Walsham-le-Willows travel to Haverhill Rovers, (3pm) while First Division outfit Stowmarket host Ely City (3pm).
