Suffolk were forced to settle for a draw away at Bedfordshire in their opening Unicorns Minor Coutnites Championship Eastern Division encounter.

Kicking off the three-day match, the hosts won the toss and batted their way to a first innings total of 248, with Suffolk captain Justin Bishop claiming three of his four wickets in total.

In reply an impressive 103 knock from Bury St Edmunds’ Michael Comber, supported by Bishop (63), Tom Huggins (24) and former Bury duo Tom Rash (51) and Josh Davey (43) saw the visitors declare on 305-5.

Davey and Huggins then proved just as destructive with the ball, picking up three wickets apiece as the home side posted a second innings total of 351, before Suffolk held on for a draw as they closed their second innings on 145-5 at the end of play. Suffolk claimed 11 points from the game, while Bedfordshire took eight. Bury also had Sasha Ward and Russell Stockdale among the squad.
