Suffolk club avenge defeat

Suffolk Golf Club avenged their defeat against Bury St Edmunds from last season when the two clubs met in the first round of the Tolly Cobbold Cup.

Suffolk won by nine holes in a match consisting of four pairs over 36 holes.

After the morning 18 holes Bury led by one hole.

The Suffolk team rallied in the afternoon with the pairing of Ivan Snelling and Jim Chapman, who had won by four shots in the morning, continuing their good form to win by nine.

Alf Jackson and Stewart Kerr, who were one down in the morning, came back to half the afternoon match.

The third pairing of Paul Dufosee and rookie Brian Newell, who had lost by six in the morning, made a comeback to reduce the deficet to only two in the afternoon.

Suffolk club captain Alf Sandford and rookie Glen Barker won their morning match by two and continued the winning streak in the afternoon to win by three.

n The Hambro Interclub golf clash between Flempton and Halesworth resulted in a loss for Flempton by nine holes.

The Flempton team consisted of Paul Brierley and Colin Campbell, Paul and Richard Kent, Alfie Halil and Mark Rea and David Cargill and Colin Marchbank.
