It was a chance for their coaching team to have a look at a couple of new faces ahead of their test at a higher level in London League Two North East, as well as try out some new combinations and get some match sharpness in.

Sides from Sudbury, Diss, Wymondham, Old Albanians (II and III combination side) and Norwich all descended on Stow’s Chilton Fields base, playing against each other for points.

Former Bury St Edmunds player Ben Scully’s Sudbury side, who have been promoted to London One North, one level below the National League, were the overall winners, just ahead of Diss.

Martin Barnard, who has stepped down as first-team manager, was part of the organising committee and said they decided to do a senior version of their successful Colts Festival.

“We have done it before, but many years ago,” he said.

“It gives everyone a bit more variety for pre-season opposition and allows you to rotate the squad a bit more.
