Bury St Edmunds RFC are set for a showcase of fast and furious action with the return of international rugby Sevens to The Haberden on Sunday.

The competition, sponsored by Greene King, will host a showpiece 16-team elite competition involving Premiership sides Northampton Saints, Leicester Tigers, Saracens, Worcester Warriors and top invitational Sevens teams such as Samurai Barracudas, as well as an eight-team open competition.

Carrying on from the celebrations of Bury’s perfect London One North campaign, a large crowd is expected to converge on the home of the champions for the competition that will also include special guest appearances from Northampton Saints and England duo Ben Foden and Courtney Lawes.

Full-back Foden, who has 30 international caps to his name, and lock Lawes, who has represented England 14 times, are scheduled to present the trophy to the overall winners, adding extra excitement to an already high-profile event.

“We are delighted to be able to have Ben and Courtney attend the event,” said Bury chairman Mike Robinson.

“They will certainly add a bit of excitement to the event and it shows how far we have come that we can attract players of their calibre to attend.

“After the amazing season we have enjoyed, to be able to host this competition is like the icing on the cake, it should another great celebration.

“Hopefully people will be more aware of the club and will want to come down and see what the competition is all about.

“The event is a brilliant family day out for anyone who loves the sport and it’s also a great opportunity to watch top-flight rugby locally”

The event runs from 10am until 6pm and has food, drink and merchandise stalls on site. Tickets are priced at £10 per adult and £5 for under-15s with discounts for members of the Armed Forces and free entry for children under five.
