Rugby officials have the world at their feet

Three rugby referees from Suffolk are set to officiate at the 2015 Rugby World Cup.

Roy Marfleet, Nigel Carrick and Darryl Chapman will all feature in the six-week extravaganza which starts tonight.

Nigel Carrick of Bury St Edmunds has been selected as a fourth official.

Carrick has previously featured as a fourth official at International matches at Twickenham and is a regular assistant in the Premiership – rugby unions top tier.

Darryl Chapman,from Stowmarket, has been selected as a fifth official.

Chapman is a national level referee and an assistant in the Championship.

Roy Marfleet, from Hedingham, has been selected as an official time keeper.

Trevor White, from Suffolk Rugby Union Referees’ Society, said: “For a small society with less than 50 active members it is a fantastic achievement to have three local officials representing us at such a prestigious international event.”
