Roper returns to race action

Having taken a year out of the sport, Mildenhall rally driver Lewis Roper returned to action in the IMGold Manx National Rally at the Isle of Man.

The race is part of the BTRDA Mixed Surface Challenge and Roper and his co-driver Nick Allison experienced many of the sections of the world-famous TT motorcycle races.

Driving their Mitsubishi Evo VIII, the first day of competition started on Friday evening, with six special stages running into darkness.

The duo struggled following a night of heavy rain and started the Saturday in 97th place.

Their confidence began to grow and they managed to climb up to 75th by the end of the 14th stage out of 125 crews.

They hope to be back out on the next round of the championship on July 11, when the series switches to the fast-gravel stages of the Nicky Grist Stages in mid-Wales.
