Olympic silver medallist and badminton star Gail Emms, above, will be the first face to appear in a new social media campaign to attract more nominations from the Bury St Edmunds area for the St Edmundsbury Sports Awards this summer.
The campaign will take place on the awards’ Facebook (www.facebook.com/StEdmundsbury SportsAwards) and Twitter (@StEdsSportAward) pages over the next nine weeks.
The awards, now in its eighth year, recognise outstanding sporting achievements made by men, women and juniors as well as showcasing the sporting efforts made in the borough of St Edmundsbury.
Awards include: Sports Personality, Young Sports Personality, Young Community Volunteer, Junior
Team, Senior Team, Unsung Hero, Lifetime Achievement and Triumph Over Adversity.
The People’s Champion award is voted by the public through the awards’ media sponsors Bury Free Press and sister paper Haverhill Echo.
A new category for Most Active Workplace completes the line-up of 12 awards.
