Nesbitt treble ends Needham’s recent upturn
Needham Market 1
Billericay Town 3
by Alex Moss at Bloomfields
Needham Market slipped to their first defeat in three games, as a hat-trick from Teddy Nesbitt helped Billericay Town to a 3-1 win at Bloomfields on Tuesday night.
Nesbitt struck twice in the first 25 minutes to give Billericay a commanding 2-0 lead, before Adam Mills hit back for the Marketmen with a sublime goal to reduce their arrears to just the solitary goal at the break.
Needham continued to search for an equaliser in the second-half, but their brave efforts were ended when Nesbitt converted from the penalty spot four minutes from time to put the visitors out of sight.
Mark Morsley made two changes to the side that started in the thrilling 3-2 Suffolk Premier Cup win at Whitton United seven days previously, with the most notable of those the return of defender Ian Miller, who had missed Needham’s last two games while turning out for his other club Braintree Town.
Darryl Coakley also came back into the Marketmen’s defence, but both him and Miller were given no time to settle as Billericay went in front with just four minutes on the clock.
After the home side failed to clear their lines, the ball reached Nesbitt whose strike from outside the box took a big deflection and wrong-footed Needham goalkeeper Danny Gay into the far corner.
Billericay posed a physical threat with the powerful Mike Fondop-Talom, but it was a quick counterattack which yielded their second goal.
Dyman Labonne broke with frightening pace down the right and Needham found themselves severely outnumbered in the box when Nesbitt fired home to make it 2-0 in the 25th minute.
Needham responded quickly when Mills produced a stunning goal five minutes later, flicking the ball up and volleying into the corner.
The goal gave Needham confidence that they could get something out of the game, but despite creating numerous chances to equalise, the visitors wrapped up the points when Nesbitt completed his hat-trick in the final minutes.
