West Suffolk defy absences to storm to 38 victories in 40 events

West Suffolk Swimming Club (WSSC) overcame the absences of several swimmers through illness and another competition to secure 38 wins and two second-place finishes from 40 events at a competition in Halstead.

Beth Wiseman, competing in the girls’ 14/15 years 100m backcrawl, set a new personal best (pb) time to secure first place.

Also excelling were Olivia Nicolai, who was a substitute swimmer but gave a battling performance to place first in the girls’ 12/13 years 100m breaststroke.

Billy Cutts was a last-minute replacement in the open 100m butterfly and finished in second place with a pb.

Gregory Buckle achieved a pb in the boys’ 14/15 years 100m breaststroke, despite carrying a slight injury.

Myles Turner, who rushed to Halstead having just completed a 1,500m frontcrawl race in Corby, finished first in the boys’ 12/13 years 100m breaststroke with a pb time.

William Harpur-Davies, in the boys’ 11-and-under 50m backcrawl, and Taylor Bowen, in the boys’ 12/13 years 100m, swum to new pb times and secured first places.
