Paul Watson produced the stand-out ride for West Suffolk Wheelers and Triathlon Club in the East and South East Regional Cyclocross Championships, held at a cold and windy Trinity Park, Ipswich, on Sunday.

Watson, racing in the male vets 50-59 age category, finished impressively for eighth.

Barry Denny finished 28th and Darren Baker 30th after determined rides in the same race.

Sam Asker was 12th in the youth race.

Tom Macro came sixth in the under-12 category and Charlie Knowler 10th in the under-10 section.

Six members contested the male vets 40-49 category, with Mike Bowen finishing in 24th.

Matt Denny edged out Ian Mortlock by one second in a sprint finish to cross the line in 58th place and Mortlock 59th.

Completing the group were Adi Grimwood (61st), James Asker (64th) and David Griggs (68th).

n Nine members of the club took part in the Suffolk Winter League Cross Country over five miles at Sutton Hoo.

In the senior race, new member Keith Marra finished a superb 11th with Chris Mower in 47th.

They were followed by Phil Clarke (103rd), Sharon Perry (110th), Julian Colman (117th) and Malcolm MacFarlane (162nd).

In the combined junior race, Miles Taylor finished 42nd and Beth Singleton was 59th.
