West Suffolk Athletics Club’s under-17 women earned a top-five finish at the English National Cross Country Relay Championships.
Racing over 2,500m at Berry Hill Park, Mansfield, they were led off by Sophie Tooley (eight minutes 48 seconds) in the fifth fastest time of the day.
She was followed by Charlotte Murphy (9.10) and Emily Moyes (9.48) to finish fifth overall.
Holly Davies (9.45) and Bronwyn Jacobs (11.00) raced for the incomplete B team.
The under-20 men’s team, racing over 3,000m, finished seventh overall, just 26 seconds behind the team who took bronze.
Mac Delo (8.50), Seb Anthony (9.22) and Michael Bartram (9.13) kept them in the top 10 throughout.
The under-15 girls’ A team were 15th in their race — over 2,000m — with Olivia Allum (7.43), Lauren Murphy (7.38) and Megan Newton (7.29) running well.
The B team of Katrina Kemp (8.04), Claudia Spencer-Hall (8.14) and Mikayela Sealby (8.18) were 52nd.
Helen Waters (11.02) returned to team competition for West Suffolk by leading off for the senior women and was followed by Latvian new member Inese Avsejeva (11.31) and Maureen McCarthy (11.48) for 35th overall.
Christine Anthony improved by almost 90 seconds on her time last year with 11.51 for 69th as the lone B team runner.
The under-15 boys raced over 2,000m and Cameron Ackroyd (7.16), Niall Ackroyd (6.50) and Thomas McCarthy (7.14) brought them home in 37th.
Phil Crutchlow (7.14) was the lone B team runner.
Christy Williams (10.13) was first away for the under-17 men, racing over 3000m.
Ben Eames (10.18) and Adam Crawford (10.33) lifted them to 42nd.
The under-13 girls were slightly off the pace in their race and came home 66th, with Libby Walshe (8.28), Jasmin Raja (8.54) and Alana Wilson (8.56).
Libby Stinson (9.37) was the lone runner for the B team.
Adam Newton was the lone West Suffolk runner in the under-13 boys’ race, recording 7.57.
