Mike Bowen consolidated his top five position in the 40-49 category of the Eastern Cyclocross League with an impressive ninth place in Broome Heath.
On a new course which has played host to cross country running, West Suffolk Wheelers and Triathlon Club competitors faced several challenges in round 15 near Bungay, including a new and lengthy and energy sapping sand pit at the bottom of a steep descent, together with numerous exposed tree roots which kept everyone on their toes.
Fast approaching the business end of this year’s league, Bowen was not the only club member having a pleasing day, with Darren Davis also putting in another top ride for 24th, with Matt Shingleton (30th), Matt Denny (45th) Giles Prime (49th) and Adrian Grimwood (51st) also finishing well.
In the combined women and men’s 50-plus race, Peter Golding continues to impress in his first season with 14th.
Barry Denny placed 40th, followed by David Griggs (43rd) and Nicole Gregory (46th).
Emphasising the sport’s family friendly set-up, Nicole’s son, Harley Gregory, put in a sterling ride for fifth in the under-10s age group, while David Grigg’s daughter Sophie will be very pleased with her effort, placing 11th.
In the under-12 race, Charlie Knowler (10th) continues to improve while Oliver Griggs did not finish.
In the youth race, Thomas Macro finished 32nd and Fraser Elsworth did not finish.
