Bury St Edmunds’ Josh Tonnar moved a step closer to claiming a 2015 seat in the Great Britain senior rowing squad after a top-20 finish in the latest GB Rowing Team assessment race.
The 24-year-old, who has represented his country at youth levels, came 19th out of 91 in the weekend’s first Openweight Men’s 5k Water Assessment at Boston Rowing Club, Lincolnshire.
The Molesey Boat Club member was ranked 24th after the first half, but improved his display to 16th during the second half.
His total time of 18 minute 1.10 seconds was 0.98 of a second off Tideway Scullers’ Alan Campbell, who ranked first.
The second of three GB Rowing Team assessments has been set for December 20, again at Boston.
