BURY Titans will be hoping to end a poor start to the season by upsetting local rivals Sudbury Gladiators tomorrow (2.30pm).

The Titans travel to Whittome Field for a top-versus-bottom encounter with the newly-formed Gladiators having won their opening two matches, while Bury have lost two out of two in the Rugby League Conference East Regional.

Last time out, the Titans were downed 42-16 at The Haberden by the second-placed Bedford Tigers to leave them stranded at the foot of the table, but player/chairman Leon Berrill is confident of turning that form around.

“We’ve got a new and very young team, but we just have to get out there, play together more and complete our sets,” he said. “If we can do that, we can match anyone in this league.

“A win would kickstart our season and put us back towards where we should be.”

Sudbury have quickly adapted to life in the 13-a-side game, following up an opening day 40-10 defeat of Northampton Demons A with a 44-10 success at Norwich City Saxons.

“It’s good for the East region and good for Bury and Sudbury,” added Berrill. “We are up for this game because they are a new team doing quite well. We will be looking to upset their season.”

Meanwhile, Sudbury are also looking forward to the

“It is a big fixture union-wise and will be a big match for us,” said the Gladiators’ player/coach Andy Hunter. “We have stamped our authority down in the league so far, but we want to smash the Titans and maintain our 100 per cent record for as long as possible.”
