The Cambridgeshire League fixture list pitted the two Risbygate men’s teams against local rivals Victory Ground with tie breaks playing a crucial role in both results.

Risbygate Men’s I, Nick Porter, Sam Ratcliffe, James Hoad and Tom Taylor, beat Victory 5-3.

With Porter and Ratcliffe establishing a lead by winning three of their sets, it was down to Hoad and Taylor to clinch a tight tie break in the last rubber to give Risbygate victory overall.

In the Men’s II game, two close tie breaks went Victory’s way enabling them to win the match 6-2, ensuring the week’s results were shared between the town’s two clubs.

Ladies I were hit by call-offs and injuries but, with Jo Harpur and Louise Vivian stepping up to join regulars Sue Glasswell and Julie Hatton, Risbygate competed well.

They were eventually beaten by Newmarket, who are currently riding high in third place in Division One.
