Bacton-based swimmer Thomas Clare had a highly-memorable Suffolk County Swimming Championships, winning seven golds, four silvers and two bronze medals in individual categories.
Clare, 12, took the title of best overall male swimmer in his age group over the last three weekends of the Amateur Swimming Association’s county event.
He swam a personal best time in every event he entered, bettering his National Championship qualifying time for the 100 metre backstroke (now one minute and 6.98 seconds) and also achieving a National Qualifying time for the 200m backstroke (2.27.59).
Clare was not done there though, winning gold in both the 4x50m frestyle relay and 4x50m medley relay for years 11 and 12 with his fellow swimmers at Team Ipswich.
He is now looking forward now to the East Region Championships in June and the National Championships in July.
