West Suffolk and Stowmarket swimmers helped Suffolk to fifth place out of 29 teams at the Inter Counties Championships.

Sharon Perry (West Suffolk) pulled out all the stops in the 35-plus age category, clinching second in the 50m front crawl and third in the 50m butterfly and 50m backstroke.

Stowmarket’s Sue Holdich (65-plus age category) was second in the 50m butterfly and third in the 50m front crawl, a position matched by clubmate Len Phoenix in the 50m backstroke. Kim Lynch (Stowmarket) secured second in the 55-plus age category’s 50m butterfly and 50m front crawl. Holdich was part of the 260-plus years’ 200m mixed freestyle relay squad who picked up gold.

Struan Banfield, Ruth Brown, Laurel Greszler and Andrew Kimpton (all West Suffolk) all picked up value points for Suffolk in individual and relay events, along with Stowmarket’s Dale Barker, Alison Jefferies, Peter Lynch and Andy Wright.
