Suffolk shine with healthy medal haul

WEST Suffolk Athletics Club travelled to Ickworth Park, Horringer for the 2012 Suffolk Cross Country Championships and returned with a medal haul.

Sophie Tooley led home a West Suffolk clean sweep in the opening under-13 girls 3km race, while Holly Davies and Nella Walters took the other medal places.

Megan Newton claimed fourth, with Mikayela Sealby eighth, Suleika Horrocks 10th and Lily Shalev 12th to also claim the team gold medal.

In the equivalent boys under-13s race, WSAC continued the trend as a team silver medal was achieved by Christy Williams (fifth), Jacob Freeborough (11th) and Tommy Martin (21st)

The under-15 boys repeated a clean sweep of the medals in the 4km race led by eventual winner Cameron McKie, followed by Seb Anthony and Michael Bartram to take the minor medals.

Beth Tooley raced strongly in the under-17 womens 5km race to claim a bronze medal.

Katie Duncan (fourth) and India George (fifth) confirmed another team gold medal for the club.

Mac Delo returned from injury to win the under-17 boys’ race by some margin, before another team gold was secured in the under-20 women’s 6km race with Holly Archer third, Justine Anthony fourth and Grace Waters fifth.

In the under-20 8km race Simon Dawson and Dom Thackery clinched silver and bronze respectively, before Christine Anthony raced to fourth in the senior women’s 8km race.

Finally, Alex Dunbar put in a determined display to claim silver on the 12km course to round off a hugely successful event for the club.
