There was a strong turnout from the West Suffolk Wheelers when the Eastern Cyclocross League resumed in Welwyn Garden City on Saturday.

There was a fine season’s race debut from Darren Davis in the male 40-49 category who finished 30th.

Other finishers in this category were Mike Bowen (18th), Richard Stiff (49th), Matt Denny (52nd), Simon Elsworth (58th) and Adrian Grimwood (62nd).

In the youth/under-14 race, Sam Asker finished fifth (first under-14), followed by Fraser Elsworth (21st), Matt Asker (26th) and Thomas Macro (46th).

Oliver Griggs was 15th in the under-12s’ race, while the under-10s’ race saw Harley Gregory (ninth), Victoria Asker (18th) and Sophie Griggs (22nd) put in spirited efforts.

In the women and 50-plus men race, Barry Denny was 48th, David Griggs 63rd and Nicole Gregory 69th.

Taking a break from the league, Darren Baker instead competed in the Lakeland Monster Miles Cyclocross Sportive.

He climbed 6,545 feet over the 62-mile course on his way to finishing in five hours 50 minutes 11 seconds.

n A fine season’s racing from West Suffolk Wheelers and Triathlon Club member Hannah McInroy Naylor was rewarded with her being comfortably crowned as champion in the Tri England Eastern Region Triathlon League 2014.

n The final action in the Velopark children’s summer duathlon series took place at the Olympic Park on Sunday.

In the Tri Star Two race (11-12 years) Oscar Woodcraft’s time of 17 minutes three seconds for the 1.2km run/5km bike race/600m run) was rewarded with an excellent second place.

In the Tri Star One race (9-10 years), Charlie Knowler’s time of 12.13 for his 600m run/3km bike race/600m run earned him a creditable fourth place.
