Phoebe Hayden and Ella Dootson broke new ground when Stowmarket’s swim team descended on Crown Pools for the Ipswich Open Meet across the weekend.
Hayden, 13, secured her first ever regional qualifying time in the 50m backstroke (33.50 seconds), while 12-year-old Dootson celebrated her first ever county qualifying time in the 50m freestyle (35.03).
The meeting was the final chance for swimmers to qualify for the County Championships in March.
Manfred Battle, 12, gained his first breaststroke regional time in the boys’ 200m breaststroke with a time of three minutes 7.72 seconds, adding to his successful haul of improved regional times obtained over the weekend.
