n Almost perfect weather masked the treacherous conditions under wheel that greeted riders at the fourth round of the Mud Sweat and Gears mountain bike race at Ickworth Park on Sunday.

A tough and uncompromising course was worsened by a blanket of thick cloying mud in the wooded sections, which played havoc with riders and machines.

Rising to the challenge were seven Wheelers — Rhys Holland-Jones (juvenile male, eighth, 1.09.43, three laps), Robin Lines (youth male), 12th, 59.59, two laps), Paul Watson (grand vet male, seventh, 1.39.22, five laps), Malcolm McFarlane (grand vet male, 16th, 1.29.11, four laps), Ross McKenzie (junior male), sixth, 1.35.25, four laps), Jamie Wightman (master male, fifth, 1.27.52, five laps), Malcolm Borg (sport male, 30th, 1.40.13, four laps).
