Bury Saints look set to finally commence their competitive campaign as they prepare to welcome Essex Spartans on Sunday (2.30pm).
After a difficult period since forming Bury St Edmunds’ first American Football team, the Saints finally stand on the verge of commencing their British American Football Association National League season at Thurston Rugby Club.
An extended period of preseason training was put into practice over last couple of months in a series of friendly encounters as the team secured successive victories overcoming the Portsmouth Dreadnoughts and London Blitz development team.
However, they faced a tougher challenge in their final game against Swindon Storm, who proved too strong in a 20-8 defeat.
“Overall there was a lot to be pleased about in Pre-season,” said head coach Chris Wallis. “This team is still less than a year old and I’m extremely proud of how far we have come in that time. “We now need to knuckle down and work harder than we have done so far.”
