Stowmarket bowler Mark Royal has tipped Katherine Rednall to clinch World Indoor Bowls Championship glory ahead of today’s Ladies World Matchplay Singles.

The Stowmarket High School pupil is on the verge of her first Championship title in her maiden appearance at the finals after sealing her place in today’s final by beating Alison Merrien MBE in straight sets yesterday.

And ahead of today’s encounter, live on BBC2, with Rebecca Field (1pm), Royal, a previous semi-finalist, has admitted it would not be a shock to see the youngest ever finalist at the competition pick up the title at the Potters Resort in Norfolk.

“I tipped Katherine to win from the very start,” he said.

“She is a great talent and despite her young age she shows absolutely no nerves at all.

“I honestly don’t think it would be a surprise to anyone in the world of bowls to see her win it because she is a tremendous talent.”
