MILDENHALL and District Swimming Club Sharks president David Robinson, who has been instrumental in the club for many years, has been elected president of the East Region Amateur Swimming Association (ASA).

Robinson became a member of the Sharks in 1979 and is currently vice-president, having held previous positions including chairman and secretary.

He is partly responsible for setting up the East Region ASA and is secretary of the Suffolk ASA, while also being secretary of the Fenland Swimming League for more than 20 years.

Robinson, who also holds many other positions within the sport, said: “When I was asked to become president-elect last year, I was a little apprehensive as the first five incumbents in the role would be such a hard act to follow.”

He added: “Although I was apprehensive, I am looking forward to the coming year and will attend as many events that I am invited to as possible.”

Steve Molyneux, chairman of the Sharks, said: “We are very proud of Dave achieving this well-deserved appointment.

“His tireless efforts towards swimming in this region are remarkable. I would also like to take this opportunity to thank Dave, on behalf of the Sharks, for all his hard work and dedication to our club over the years.”
