West Suffolk Athletics Club were in action at four cross country competitions held over the weekend.

Pride of place goes to the Masters relay team of Maureen McCarthy, Celia Duncan and Christine Anthony, who clinched gold at the British Masters Relay Championships in Derbyshire, in their age group, producing the three fastest legs of the day.

Another winning performance came at Chelmsford in the latest round of the Essex League, where Mac Delo took the senior men’s race with a sprint finish.

With two wins and a third Delo is odds on to win the overall senior and under-20 titles.

Also at Chelmsford, there were encouraging performances from Ben Eames and Matt Le Poidevin in the under-15 boys, with Eames coming second, just four seconds adrift of the winner, and Le Poidevin a solid 10th.

Thomas McCarthy, continued to gain experience with a promising 10th in under-13 boys’ race.

Meanwhile, Culford School staged an inter-school competition for middle school age (Years 5 to 8) runners.

WSAC athletes included Alana Wilson, who won the junior girls’ race.
