THE biggest field for years congregated at Nowton Park in Bury for the third meeting in the Suffolk Winter Cross Country League, hosted by Saint Edmund Pacers.
And it was a successful day for the Pacers, who enjoyed a one-two in the senior men’s race, winning the team section and also providing the winner of the ladies’ event.
An in-form Steve Robinson eased to victory in the men’s race, finishing well clear of club-mate Kevin Murphy. There was also a strong run from Andy Taylor in seventh.
The scoring team was completed by Kevin Vaughan (15th), Glen Douglas (20th), David Reed (22nd), who was fresh from his 50th birthday party, and Robert Smailes (41st).
Jo Tweed continued her domination of the ladies’ event, powering to victory thanks to a strong second lap. She was ably supported by Angela Joiner-Handy and Kath Jeffrey.
A report on the junior race will appear in next week’s edition.
