TEN West Suffolk swimmers opened the new season by competing at Thetford Dolphins’ Nifty Fifties open meet.
This friendly low-key gala provided an excellent introduction to external competition for some of the youngest swimmers, offering the chance to race over 50m sprints in all strokes and 100m individual medley.
Fresh after the summer break from training, all the swimmers produced new personal best times.
Nine-year-old Ciaran Riches showed the form that won him a clutch of medals at the County Development Championships in the summer, finishing in the top two in all his races and claiming two gold and three silver medals.
Nella Walters, 12, won gold in all three of her events, while Charlie Eshelby claimed a full house of five gold medals, and Beth Mottram, 13, earned one gold and one silver medal.
Also winning medals for West Suffolk were Niamh Perry, 10, Chloe Riches, 12, and Olivia Nicolai, 12.
The remaining members of the squad, youngsters Natalie Wright, nine, Molly Wheeler, 10, and Ailsa Eshelby, 10, all put in some fantastic swims to improve on their previous best times.
