London 2012: Rwanda’s Hermas Muvunyi in pole position for gold

RWANDA’S Hermas Muvunyi was the fastest qualifier for tonight’s men’s T46 400m final (9.44pm).

He raced to success in heat two in 49.75secs, setting an African record in the process.

Theoneste Nsengimana missed out on the men’s T46 1,500m final, which also takes place tonight (8.14pm), while Theogene Hakizimana was 10th in the men’s under-82.5kg powerlifting.

Jean de Dieu Nkundabera won a Paralympic bronze medal for Rwanda in wheelchair racing at the 2004 Summer Paralympics in Athens — the nation’s only medal in either the Paralympics or Olympics to date.

Rwanda stayed in Bury St Edmunds in the build-up to the Games.
