London 2012: Caroline Maclean and Jonathan Adams miss medals

Have your say

HAVERHILL’S Caroline Maclean and Great Cornard’s Jonathan Adams missed out on medals at the Paralympics last night.

Maclean — a two-time St Edmundsbury Sports Personality of the Year who also plays for Sudbury-based Eastern Blue Stars — was involved in a thrilling women’s wheelchair basketball quarter-final against Germany.

The lead changed hands countless times, but the reigning Paralympic silver medallists had too much in the final period as they ran out 55-44 winners.

Maclean and her team-mates can still claim a fifth-place finish and next play tomorrow against China in the fifth-to-eighth-place semi-final.

Meanwhile, in the Olympic Stadium, Adams finished 14th out of 16 competitors in the men’s F34 shot put with a best throw of 9.84m.

Rwanda’s Hermas Muvunyi — who trained in Bury St Edmunds with his team-mates in the build-up to the Games — finished fifth in the men’s T46 400m final.

He begins his bid for men’s T46 800m gold tomorrow morning.
