A large field of 352 adults and 77 junior runners descended on Haughley Park in Stowmarket to take part in the fourth and penultimate race of the popular Friday 5 series.

The event was also a qualifying race for the SCAA Grand Prix which is a seven race series held every year.

In what was a fast field of runners, Andrew Rooke (Aldersham Farnham and District Running Club) came first with a time of 27 minutes and two seconds, followed by Macauley Delo (West Suffolk AC) and Tom Fairbrother (Woodbridge Shufflers) in second and third with times of 27:19 and 27:22 respectively.

Odette Robson (Saint Edmund Pacers) continued her great form with a first place finish time of 31:36. The other two spots on the podium were taken by Sian-Marie Lucas (Haverhill Running Club) in second place with a time of 33:56 and Ursula Ransom (Newmarket Joggers) who finished in 35:21.

Thomas Godson took first place in the Under-9 race, Amber Bradnam and Olivert Hart took the honours in the Under-11s, Tilly Aldis and Ben Bayly won the Under-13s with Bailey Clements being first across the line in the Under-15s.

Special mentions go out to the oldest runner on the day, Mike Rosbrook of Hadleigh Hares who came in a very respectable 288th with a time of 48:27 and the youngest participant on the day, three year-old old Jake Forder. Next on the Striders’ calendar is the Golden Mile on September 5 at 2pm. For more visit
