West Suffolk Athletic Club’s veteran women’s team came close to successfully defending their V45 National Cross Country Relay title in Derby, taking the silver medal.

Christine Anthony led off and an excellent 14 minutes one second leg put the team 5th at the first changeover.

Celia Duncan moved the team to 4th with 13.57 and Maureen McCarthy produced her usual gutsy effort to overhaul two more teams to anchor the team to the silver medal with a very fast 12.50 final leg.

n In Liverpool, at the Cross Challenge and Euro trials, Justine Anthony was pleased with her run to 44th overall and 19th under-23 in the senior women’s race.

Michael Bartram was somewhat below his best placing 25th in the under-17 men’s race.

n In the USA Holly Archer was unfortunate to suffer an injury in the warm-up at the NCAA Championship final and although she started, was forced to pull out soon after the start. It was an unfortunate end to an otherwise very successful cross country season.

n Closer to home, Seb Anthony set a new personal best in the Bury St Edmunds Parkrun, breaking team-mate Mac Delo’s course record.

Anthony’s time of 16.15, a nine-second personal best, took five seconds off the previous record.
